About Christina
Where Movement Meets Healing
For Christina Montoya, movement has never been simply about fitness or performance.
It has always been a conversation between the body and the spirit.
From an early age, Christina experienced movement as something far deeper than choreography or exercise. Dance became a place of freedom, expression, and joy—a way to connect with something larger than herself while fully inhabiting the body she had been given.
That understanding has shaped every step of her life's journey.
Born and raised on Martha's Vineyard, Christina inherited two remarkable legacies. On her father's side came a rich lineage of Spanish Gypsy flamenco artists and musicians, awakening a lifelong love of rhythm, dance, storytelling, and cultural expression. From her mother, a Polarity Therapy practitioner for more than forty years, came an equally deep appreciation for the healing arts and the profound wisdom held within the human body.
At just thirteen years old, Christina left Martha's Vineyard to attend Professional Children's School in New York City, pursuing her dream of becoming a professional dancer. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Dance from Bennington College and spent years studying, performing, teaching, and traveling to immerse herself in movement traditions rooted in the African Diaspora, particularly Cuban casino dance and hip hop. For Christina, learning dance has never been separate from learning culture. She believes every movement tradition carries the history, resilience, and spirit of the people who created it.
Alongside dance, another path unfolded.
Beginning in childhood, Christina became both a student and recipient of healing practices including Polarity Therapy, acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, yoga, Pilates, Authentic Movement, bioenergetics, and 5 Rhythms Movement Meditation. She later completed her bodywork and yoga teacher certifications at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, deepening her understanding of the relationship between movement, healing, and embodied awareness.
But perhaps her greatest teachers have been life itself.
Living with scoliosis, recovering from a herniated disc, navigating chronic Lyme disease, and experiencing the profound changes of menopause transformed her relationship with her own body. These experiences taught her that healing is rarely about returning to who we once were. Instead, it is about learning to meet ourselves with compassion, curiosity, and trust exactly where we are.
Those lessons became the foundation of Christina's work.
Today, she brings together decades of experience in dance, movement, bodywork, and cultural exploration to help others reconnect with themselves through Body Love Sessions, classes, workshops, and community experiences.
She believes every body carries a story.
Every body carries wisdom.
And every body deserves to be met with kindness.
Whether working one-on-one or guiding a group, Christina's intention is not to teach people how to move "correctly." Instead, she creates opportunities for people to listen more deeply, move more freely, and rediscover the joy, resilience, and quiet wisdom that have always lived within them.
Because movement is about so much more than the body.
It is one of the ways we remember who we are.
“Body Love sessions with Christina are like going to church, but the church is your body.”
